September 13, was Positive Thinking Day. My computer told me this. It served up an article about it and six things to get there.
Some of the highlights.
Don’t be a Pollyana. In a nutshell realize there is good and bad and focus on the good.
Practice Awareness: We often don’t realize how much negative noise runs in our heads. Pay attention and catch those ANTS- Automatic Negative Thoughts and make a decision not to run with them.
Feed Positivity, meditating and journaling can help. Engage in positive conversations with yourself. Counter negative thoughts with positive ones.
Surround yourself with Positive People. Move away from toxic people. Move towards those who are supportive.
My footnote:
As far as Faith goes, counting blessings is important. Both my daughter’s had vehicles that were hit and required an extended stay at the body shop recently. They were both upset (logically) that their cars were damaged and at no fault of their own. Having lost friends in accidents and surviving a particularly gnarly one my own self, my first question to each was, “Was anyone hurt?” When the answer came back “No” I said a prayer of thanks and advised my kids the rest is only “stuff”.
Being thankful things are not worse is an important part of being grateful. Realizing what we have rather than focusing on what we don’t is important and therapeutic.
The other part of this is having the faith that God has all this covered, there is a Master Plan, even if it doesn’t seem to make sense. That can be a big chunk of peacefulness and confidence when it seems things are going nuts or falling apart.
I have begun a faith class at church that brings all this home. Understanding that God has a plan can bring a peace and serenity that will pull me through the tough times.
I hope you find this helpful.

Thank you for your thoughts on positive thinking. You are right thankfulness goes hand and hand with positive thinking. I appreciate you reminding me of this. I am thankful your girls are not hurt. Enjoy your class on faith. I am interested in hearing what you learn there. Love, Diane Date: Mon, 15 Sep 2014 16:19:35 +0000 To: rndalifano@hotmail.com
